Skateparks, Arts, and Advocacy

Join us on Sunday, August 17 at 3pm for Skate Jam when Courtyard D turns into a pop-up skatepark for all to enjoy.

Skateparks, Arts, and Advocacy is a free, three-day summer program in partnership with Skate Haven that explores skateboarding culture, civic advocacy, and the arts. This program invites high school students to partake in hands-on workshops that examine skateboarding as an art practice, engage the basics of skatepark design, and teach methodologies for skatepark advocacy.

The workshops challenge young skaters to consider themselves citizen-artists. We will think critically about how both skateboarding and skateparks function as art and how to use this art to make lasting change in our communities. At the end of the three days, participants will gain a new perspective on both skateboarding technique and skatepark advocacy.

No previous skateboarding experience is required, and beginner participation is encouraged! The Skateparks, Arts, and Advocacy program will review the fundamentals of skating in a simple, straightforward way that will provide new insights to skaters of all levels. The program includes a hotel stay in downtown North Adams with program facilitators.

Space for ten Berkshire County students! Register here.
