April 2025 Schedule
Monday, April 21: 11am Painting with Light with Phoebe Hiltermann
Learn how to play with the elements of light and dimension to create trick-of-the-light banners that defy the laws of traditional paintings by exploring a new dimension between 2-D and sculptural forms. Inspired by the large-scale floral artwork of Carly Glovinski’s Almanac, we will create our own landscapes using mulberry paper and tissue paper to create layers of images and colors that are transformed by light.
Tuesday, April 22: 11am Embroidered Memories with Rebecca Cuscaden Marvin & Erick Ramos-Jacobo
Learn embroidery techniques as we breathe new life into photographic memories. Inspired by Randi Malkin Steinberger’s new installation, The Archive of Lost Memories, participants will use the artist’s techniques to transform images as we discuss photography, embroidery, archiving, and memory. Participants will meet in Kidspace and then walk to the exhibition space together for the workshop. Please bring photographs you don’t mind altering, additional photographs will also be on hand for use.
Wednesday, April 23: 11am Ode to a Tiny Flower with Colin Harrington & Beth Davis
Learn botanical drawing techniques to create detailed illustrations of delicate spring blooms. During April, deciduous trees in the Berkshires develop delicate misty clouds of yellow, green, pink, and red as tiny flower buds burst open. Using a microscope to look closely at tree buds, participants will create drawings and poetic lines as an ode to these tiny flowers.
Thursday, April 24: 11am Lenticular Drawings with Annalise Lozier
Learn how to create artistic illusions that seem like magic using simple drawing supplies. Inspired by James Turrell, who uses the science of light to create illusions that distort our sense of space, time, and depth, you will learn how to make your own lenticular drawing that changes as you move in front of it.
Friday, April 25: 11am Collage Compositions with Donald Jackson
Learn how to create a unique montage of images and text inspired by Ohan Breiding’s exhibition Belly of a Glacier. Participants will be introduced to basic color theory and compositional rules, as well as three methodologies of the art of collage: deconstruction, reinterpretation, and reconstruction. Through the creation of collages we will examine how images and words can be taken out of their original context, reinterpreted to hold new meaning, and then reconstructed into a new, original work of art.
