In June, we welcomed Passion Fruit Dance Company, a New York-based street dance and educational company, founded by choreographer Tatiana Desardouin in 2016. The group developed and performed their original work Dance Within Your Dance, in which they invite the audience to connect with the techniques, rhythms, and essence of hip-hop and house dance styles. Not just a simple aesthetic, “the groove” is the soul of street and club dance. A coalescing of community, fashion, training, introspection, liberation, and individual journeys, Passion Fruit explores how the groove can be a road map to social justice through the physical expression of Black culture.
