Ink, the final installation of groundbreaking choreographer Camille A. Brown’s trilogy about identity (along with Mr. TOL E. RAncE and BLACK GIRL: Linguistic Play), celebrates the rituals, gestural vocabulary, and traditions that remain ingrained within the lineage of the African Diaspora. Reclaiming African-American narratives by examining the culture of black life that is often appropriated, rewritten, or silenced – the choreography is an amalgamation of African-American social dance, African, tap, jazz, modern, and hip-hop styles, accompanied by a smoking-hot live band that elides elements of blues, hip-hop, jazz, and swing.
Join us on Friday at 4pm in the galleries to enjoy a pop-up performance by Camille A. Brown and Dancers in Trenton Doyle Hancock: Mind of the Mound. Free with gallery admission.
What to Expect
All seating is general admission. Preferred Ticket buyers get the best seats in the house, located in the first rows of the theater, and receive free gallery admission on the days of the shows. Our galleries are stacked with fresh exhibitions, so make time to see some art. Here is a list of nearby restaurants serving lunch and dinner in downtown North Adams. Or choose to fill your plate right here on the museum campus: Lickety Split Cafe, Gramercy Bistro, Bright Ideas Brewing, and A-oK Berkshire Barbeque. MASS MoCA strives to provide the best possible experience for all our visitors; for information about accessibility at ticketed events click here.
This program is supported in part by the Irene Hunter Fund for Dance at MASS MoCA in association with Jacob’s Pillow.
