Over 70 groundbreaking musicians from around the world come together to give shape to new sounds during this three-day, super-mix of experimental music.

Bang on a Can LOUD Weekend features three days of immersive music experiences set within the context of MASS MoCA’s vast galleries, performing arts stages and outdoor spaces nestled among the Berkshires mountains. LOUD Weekend is the culminating event of the twenty-fourth annual Bang on a Can Summer Music Festival at MASS MoCA, a three-week artist residency for innovative composers and performers selected from an international roster of artists.

Leading up to the LOUD Weekend finale, Bang on a Can fellows and faculty let loose throughout the galleries. Join us for these beloved gallery concerts (at 1:30pm and 4:30pm and free with museum admission) to experience music from some of today’s most innovative new minds.

THURSDAY, July 30 

• Bang on a Can All-Stars perform a brand new arrangement of the iconic Philip Glass album Glassworks, in its entirety. 
• David Lang’s tearful and tender Death Speaks, drawing its initial inspiration from the work of Schubert. 
• [Cute Boat Name] is the brand new folk/americana duo by Elena Moon Park and Philippa Thompson, playing guitar, banjo, fiddle, jarana, musical saw, and washboard, with lots of vocal harmonies.

FRIDAY, July 31

• WORLD PREMIERES by the 2026 summer festival composition fellows including, Eight world premieres by the Bang on a Can Summer Festival Composers Sami Anguaya, Gideon Broshy, Michaela Rea Catranis, Rohan Chander, Dominykas Digimas, Morgan Harrington, Emelia Ulrich, Benjamin Webster
• Eliza Bagg and Mantra Percussion premiere Annie Gosfield’s one-act chamber opera Emma – exploring the radical vision, ideals, and enduring legacy of Emma Goldman, one of the most legendary and influential social activists in US history.
• Cellist and multi-disciplinary artist Jeffrey Zeigler performs Eric Nathan’s Division of Time for solo cello and player-piano. 
• SPOTLIGHT ON MARTIN BRESNICK & ANNIE GOSFIELD with pieces The Bucket Rider, BE JUST!, and Overvoltage Rumble
• Percussion Quartets by Raven Chacon, Marc Mellits, Shelley Washington
• Expert improvising drummer-turned-techno manipulator Gerald Cleaver transforms the evolution of Detroit’s music scene into Infectious electronic music
• Raven Chacon’s Arc feat. Nick Photinos and The Journey of the Horizontal People
• Bang on a Can All-Stars perform a new live arrangement of Terry Riley’s inspirational A Rainbow in Curved Air, a piece that significantly impacted the development of minimalism, ambient music, jazz fusion, progressive rock, and more. 
• Experimental Percussion/Synth duo NOMON (sisters Shayna and Nava Dunkelman) – an endless blend of percussion, drum machine, and synthesizers,  touching on fragments of memories from their lives in Tokyo, Oakland and now New York, where they both currently reside. 
• Longtime Bang on a Can collaborator Karl Larson plays the world premiere of Scott Wollschleger‘s Ghost Song, for solo piano. 
• The inimitable poetic jazz combination of Brandon López & Fred Moten. 
• Bang on a Can All-Star clarinetist-composer Ken Thomson’s power-packed set: Music for Amplified Orchestra including the world premiere of We Stay the Same by 20 festival performers.

SATURDAY, August 1

• Nansi Carroll’s In Memoriam, explores her emotions and experience visiting the Lynching Memorial and Equal Justice Museum in Alabama, is paired with Pelle Gudmundsen-Holmgreen’s Din Tavshed (Your Silence), which features text fragments from the novel Your Silence is my Writing on the Wall by Vibeke Grønfeldt.
• Composer/Alto Saxophonist Darius Jones conducts his large ensemble work WAR, exploring the sonic palette of sustained intensity.
• Michael Harrison’s raga-inspired Just Ancient Loops performed by the mesmerizing and magical cellist Maya Beiser, with film by Bill Morrison.  
• Art-pop songstress Lisel (Eliza Bagg)
• Morton Feldman’s mind-altering, meditative Piano and String Quartet feat. Vicky Chow
• A cocert of works by Julia Wolfe, including Blue Dress for String Quartet + Moth
• Ever-inventive and virtuosic guitarist Yasmin Williams.
• Raven Chacon’s American Ledger #1
• Mantra Percussion teams with longtime Bang on a Can collaborating composer Florent Ghys for Zemlanity and Other Serendipities – a set of video etudes for percussion and electronics. 
• Darius Jones Trio feat, Darius Jones on sax, Chris Lightcap on bass, and Gerald Cleaver on drums
• Experience Shelley Washington’s Uniforms, Silk, BIG Talk
• The US premiere of Michael Gordon’s 8, performed by an all-star cast of eight festival cellists with special guests. 
• A concert celebration of music by Martin Bresnick’s Just Time
• (RESURRECTION OF) THE STEVE MARTLAND BAND! – we are resurrecting the iconoclastic Martland Big Band in a unique tribute to the ground-breaking British composer.
• Performances by David Byrd-Marrow, Vicky Chow, David Cossin, Arlen Hlusko, Taylor Levine, Riley Palmer, Nick Photinos, Todd Reynolds, Maya Stone, Ken Thomson, plus fellows from the 2026 Bang on a Can Summer Music Festival at MASS MoCA.
