  • Special Event

  • Saturday, April 27, 1pm
  • Free with Gallery Admission
  • The Research & Development Store

On April 27, MASS MoCA will celebrate and acknowledge the diverse community who helped stage Joseph Grigely: In What Way Wham? (White Noise And Other Works, 1996-2023) with a Deaf Experience Tour of the exhibition with our Deaf Experience guides — Kristin Johnson, Stephen Braithwaite, and Cai Steele — and ASL interpreters. Afterward, Grigely discusses the experience of presenting the work to the public and the evolution of the guides’ thinking in the nine months they’ve each spent leading the Deaf Experience Tours at MASS MoCA. For more information about Joseph Grigely: Deaf Experience Tours with ASL guides and interpreters, visit the Deaf Experience Tours webpage or contact MASS MoCA at groups@massmoca.org.

The event concludes in The R&D Store, where Grigely will be on hand to launch a new limited-edition catalog: Acknowledgments (MASS MoCA,2024). Reflecting on the process of making art and art exhibitions, Grigely has said: ” as an artist, I exist largely in relation to those who surround me—so the catalogue, Acknowledgments, is essentially a story of the people I work with–art handlers, assistants, fabricators, curators, gallerists, interpreters, family, friends—basically, ‘support structures.’

Copies of our limited edition 50 Words, another collaboration between Joseph Grigely and MASS MoCA will also be available.
