6th Annual Teen Invitational

  • Archive, Archive, Education-featured

  • Opening Reception on Friday, April 29, at 7pm On view through May 1
  • MASS MoCA

Organized in collaboration with high school art teachers, principals, and artists in the northern Berkshires, the annual Teen Invitational brings local students’ artwork to the public in a fun, friendly, “sporting” environment. Students from seven high schools submit artwork for a pop-up exhibition at the museum; schools include Drury High School and McCann Technical School in North Adams; BART Charter Public School and Hoosac Valley High School in Adams; and Buxton School, Pine Cobble School, and Mt. Greylock Regional High School in Williamstown.

Many of the participating students take formal art classes in school, but those just testing the waters in the arts are encouraged to submit work. The goal of the Invitational is to reach all students who are engaged by art and who have made excellent work, inside or outside of school settings. A panel of MASS MoCA staff, area artists, and art teachers jury the work. Cash prizes are awarded to the schools’ art departments, and tuition credits at MCLA are awarded to the Grand Prize student artist.

The Invitational opens with a public reception on Friday, April 29. Doors open at 7pm, with the awards ceremony at 7:30pm, and a reception featuring a local high school band at 8pm. The work will remain on view at MASS MoCA through the weekend.
