Public Program
Drawing inspiration from the many diverse portraits on display in the exhibition, participants will first visit the galleries to learn how artists use different techniques and styles to tell stories about people. Then, they will create a portrait of their caregiver using wet or dry materials.
Prior drawing and painting experience is not required to attend. Recommended for ages 6 to 16. Please note that caregivers should stay with their children at all times and are encouraged to participate.

About the Artist:
Julia Dixon is a contemporary representational painter based in Western Massachusetts. Her work juxtaposes symbols hidden in Christian artworks and classical still lifes, particularly those of the Dutch Golden Age, with modern secular environments and nature to explore the emotional implications of presence and absence, fear, loneliness, and impermanence. Born in 1983, Dixon received her BFA from Purchase College, State University of New York, in 2005 and her MFA from Vermont College of Fine Arts in 2014. She received an Artist Fellowship in Painting from the Mass Cultural Council, grants from Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation’s Martha Boschen Porter Fund and Artist’s Resource Trust Fund for Individuals, and the Patricia Warfield Jinishian Figurative Award from the Silvermine Arts Center in New Canaan, Connecticut.
