In October 2005, the American Civil Liberties Union published a set of autopsy reports of detainees killed while in U.S. custody in Iraq and Afghanistan. The report from which these pages are taken describes the case of an Iraqi soldier who died while gagged and shackled to the top of a doorframe. The medical examiner concludes that the subject died of “blunt force injuries and asphyxia.”
