Mil’s Trills
Instruments Galore
NORTH ADAMS, MASSACHUSETTS — Mil’s Trills is voice and bass and brass and drums — a cornucopia of kid-friendly music. Led by Amelia Robinson, the band’s 2014 debut Everyone Together Now! was praised for its “boundless energy and enthusiasm.” (The List) Come early for the opening of CAVERNOUS: The Inner Life of Courage in Kidspace. Mil’s Trills performs in Club B10 on Saturday, June 17, at 2pm.
Prior to founding Mil’s Trills, Brooklyn-born musician Amelia Robinson worked at V2 Records and Dubway Studios on The Backyardigans — Nickelodeon’s animated musical television series — which gave her the opportunity to collaborate with artists such as Alicia Keys and Cyndi Lauper. After spending two years in London pursuing composition with award-winning British composer Michael Nyman, Robinson composed and conducted a twenty-minute orchestral exploration that enlisted the help of 500 bicycle bell-playing participates title The Cycle Symphony. The piece received the Time Out Critic’s Choice of 2011 and earned Robinson a spot on BBC Radio 1.
Robinson returned to Brooklyn in 2010 and started Mil’s Trills, which began as a small meetup at a local park. Soon after, Mil’s Trills began taking on crowds at places such as Lincoln Center, the Guggenheim, Brooklyn Children’s Museum, and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in Scotland. In 2014, Mil’s Trills released their debut album Everyone Together Now!, which featured Grammy-Award-winner Dean Jones, producer Anthony “Rocky” Gallo, and saxophonist Steve Elson. The album also featured the single, Mother May I?, which appeared on the children’s album Songs for a Healthier American, released by Michelle Obama’s Partnership for a Healthier America and Hip Hop Public Health.
Mil’s Trills performances focus on tapping into the imagination and allowing audiences to discover a world of music through improvisation, participation, and creative movement. The delightful act features bright, spirited songs that invite interaction between families and the performers, often with a live art-making component. Though gear towards children, Mil’s Trills “has the inexplicable ability to bring smiles to the faces of both parents and children.” (Broadway Baby).
