Can I take public transportation to MASS MoCA?
- You may take Amtrak (or fly) from New York City to Albany, NY, where you can rent a car (Albany is a one-hour drive from North Adams). There is one Amtrak train a day from Boston to Pittsfield, MA. While there is no car rental agency at the Pittsfield train station, you can call a cab for the 30-minute ride to North Adams. Bonanza Bus Lines (800.556.3815) services Williamstown (from both Boston and NYC), which is a 10-minute cab ride to MASS MoCA. Metro-North from NYC’s Grand Central Station is connected to Wassaic, which is soon to be a Zipcar location.
- The Berkshire Flyer: The Berkshire Flyer is Amtrak’s seasonal passenger rail service between New York City and the Berkshire, providing rail service from New York City to Pittsfield in the Berkshires each weekend from July through Labor Day weekend each summer. Is there a place to charge my Electric Vehicle at MASS MoCA?
- We have 8 parking spaces with access to a charging station.
- They are first come, first served.
- MASS MoCA does not own or operate the charging stations. They are owned by ChargePoint. Here is a link to see their rates and report technical issues.
Do any exhibitions require separate tickets?
- Perfectly Clear & Hind Sight: Reservations are required for James Turrell’s Perfectly Clear and Hind Sight; there is no additional charge, but advanced reservations are required. Reservations are not required to view the other works in the exhibition, James Turrell: Into the Light.
Please note: strobe light effects are used in Perfectly Clear. Kids must be 6 and older to enter Perfectly Clear or Hind Sight. For Perfectly Clear, kids 6-12 need to hold an adult’s hand.
- Laurie Anderson’s To the Moon no longer requires advance reservations, visitors will be attended to on a first come, first served basis. Please inquire at the exhibit about availability on the day of your visit. Please note: Kids must be 10 and older to experience the virtual reality work.Technology doesn’t last forever and after seven years Laurie Anderson’s Chalkroom virtual reality experience will be retired. The room, which Anderson painted every inch of, will still be on view.
- Robin Frohardt’s The Plastic Bag Store, an immersive, multimedia experience on view in Building 1 through November 3, 2024, requires a separate ticket purchase. Learn more here.
Reservations are not required to view James Turrell’s C.A.V.U. (Skyspace) during museum hours. Limited Friday and Sunday reservations for James Turrell’s C.A.V.U. (Skyspace) at dusk are available on a rolling basis. We are currently not offering dawn viewings.

Do you have wheelchairs?
- MASS MoCA is wheelchair-accessible. There is one outdoor exhibit, all utopias fell, which is not fully accessible to wheelchair users. We have four wheelchairs, which are available in the lobby on a first come, first served basis. There is ample handicapped parking, and we invite all patrons to drop off visitors near the front door. (The site is very large and the distances — by some museum measures — are great.)
Can I bring my pet to MASS MoCA?
- Sorry, but pets are not permitted in the museum, or on our campus. We do not have a space where you can comfortably leave a pet outside. - We try to post exhibition opening and closing dates on our website and to keep them updated, but if you are coming to MASS MoCA to see a particular exhibition, you should call the box office at 413.662.2111 x1 to check on the exact opening and closing dates.
Can I take photographs in the galleries and at shows?
- Still photography and video are permitted for personal, noncommercial use, with the exception of designated restricted areas, including all James Turrell installations. Flash, tripods, drones, and camera extension poles are not allowed.

Does MASS MoCA ever offer free admission to its galleries?
- As an institution with a large physical plant and a small endowment, MASS MoCA must rely on admission revenue to cover the most basic operating expenses. On the occasions when we do offer free admission, we promote it heavily through the local press and on the radio. There are passes available at most Berkshire County and regional libraries—including the North Adams Public Library—which can be checked out for complimentary admission to MASS MoCA’s galleries.
How do I purchase Mass. EBT/WIC/Connect Care admission?
- EBT/WIC Cardholders are able to purchase their museum admission in person at the Box Office. Please speak with the Box Office staff member upon arrival. A valid Massachusetts EBT card must be presented to receive discounted admission.
How do I use my Whitney Museum reciprocal membership?
- With a Dual Membership or higher, Whitney members are allowed free admission for 2 adults to MASS MoCA upon presenting proof of membership at the Box Office desk.
Are passes from the Library Pass program being accepted for admission?
- Yes, visitors using a Library Pass are able to receive their museum admission in person at the Box Office. Please speak with the Box Office staff member upon arrival. A physical pass from your library is required at entry. Learn if your local library is a Library Pass program member here.
How do I purchase a Gift Certificate?
- To purchase a Gift Certificate, please contact the Box Office at 413.662.2111 or visit the Box Office in the museum lobby. Gift Certificates can be used for museum admission, event tickets, membership, or at the MASS MoCA Gift Shop. The certificate must be physically present at the time of use to be redeemed.
- All Gift Certificates are non-transferable, non-refundable, and are not redeemable for cash.
How do I contact MASS MoCA about making a donation to my organization?
- As a non-profit organization that raises money from donors, MASS MoCA does not donate money to other organizations or causes. We are happy to provide gallery passes to be used for raffles, auctions, or door prizes to qualified charities, upon approval. Requests must be submitted in writing via mail, fax (413.663.8548) or email. No phone calls please.
Does MASS MoCA show work by local visual artists?
- MASS MoCA has frequently included the works of regional artists in its exhibitions, including Jenny Holzer (Hoosick Falls, NY), Michael Oatman (Troy, NY), Michael Glier (Hoosick Falls, NY), Mark Taylor (Williamstown, MA), Kathy High (Troy, NY), Laylah Ali (Williamstown), Jane South (Williamstown), Gregory Crewdson (Becket, MA), Jarvis Rockwell (North Adams, MA), Mary Lum (North Adams), Peggy Diggs (Williamstown), Kim Faler (North Adams), Jason Middlebrook (Hudson, NY), Danny O (North Adams), and Barbara Takenaga (Williamstown). We do not, however, have a particular “program” designed specifically for regional artists.
Are there opportunities for local performers at MASS MoCA?

Does MASS MoCA host weddings and other special events?
- Yes. Special event spaces are available to museum members at the Sustainer level or higher. Availability is subject to conservation requirements and the MASS MoCA program schedule. Indoor events cannot begin until 2 hours after the museum closes. Can I solicit my goods or services at MASS MoCA?
- MASS MoCA encourages local businesses and non-profit organizations to post notices for goods and services on its Community Bulletin Boards, located adjacent to Tunnel City Coffee and at Lickety Split, the museum café. MASS MoCA does not permit unauthorized solicitation on its campus.
