This spring Kidspace worked with a group of 7th graders from Greylock Elementary School, North Adams, and Gabriel Abbott Memorial, Florida, Massachusetts. Nationally renowned artist Victoria Palermo was invited to work with the students to create small models for possible public art projects. The students also worked with the Center for Ecological Technology to explore solar power. Through these models, Kidspace hopes to spark interest in Palermo’s art project for downtown North Adams–a colorful, sculptural bus shelter illuminated using solar energy–to replace the existing one on Main Street. This project was funded by a Massachusetts Cultural Council Creative Schools Grant.
Visit the display as part of North Adams’ annual DownStreet Arts all summer long in the windows of 53 Main Street.
Look for additional pieces to be added to the display, created by North Adams Public School elementary students. And look for us at Last Thursday events as part of DownStreet Arts.
