The Drifting Studio — Wes Bruce’s travelling artmaking mobile — is an art studio on wheels with heart, because you can’t have heart without art! It connects families, and in particular, those engaged with the Department of Children and Families (DCF), with art, nature, and themselves. With “back to nature, back to art, back together” as its post-quarantine motto, The Drifting Studio invites children and families to appreciate the everyday beauty that surrounds them in playful and inspiring art-making programming utilizing recycled, natural, and collected materials. Projects range from leaf prints and rock sculptures to building temporary art installations with found natural materials. The Drifting Studio indeed drifts, to parks, schools, community centers, and other locations throughout the Berkshires, as well as hosts public pop-up hours on MASS MoCA’s campus.
This project was made possible in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
