Join MASS MoCA Museum Educators for a series of free workshops for all ages during the week of school break, February 19–23! Workshops will take place at 11am every day in Kidspace, and each will focus on a different art medium and process. Come be inspired, learn something new, and make a project to take home! The ArtBar will also be open for drop-in art-making throughout the day.

Schedule

Monday, February 19: Theater Games with Nina Keneally
Explore the benefits of performance and movement in everyday life. This workshop will teach participants how to move, use props to convey concepts and feelings, and create a simple puppet to enact a scene.

Tuesday, February 20: Sound & Color with Rebecca Cuscaden Marvin
Inspired by Jason Moran’s works on paper, this workshop will introduce participants to different sounds and music, and explore how to use the elements of art to visually depict what they hear.

Wednesday, February 21: Through Lines with Fiona Morehouse
This workshop will explore how lines shape the way we see ourselves and the world around us. Participants will learn about the concept of lines and explore different types of linework through drawing.

Thursday, February 22: Shapes to Create with Barbara Hageman Sarvis
As an introduction to art through drawing and painting, participants in this workshop will examine different uses of lines, shapes, values, and colors. It will also examine how best to use objects like stencils, watercolors, and the color wheel to create a work of art.

Friday, February 23: Haiga Creations with Colin Harrington
This workshop explores the traditional Japanese art practice of Haiga. Participants will learn about simple poetry and how to incorporate drawing and color with the written word to create a cohesive, cross-disciplinary work of art.
