To celebrate the opening of Jeffrey Gibson’s installation POWER FULL BECAUSE WE’RE DIFFERENT, the trailblazing singer, songwriter, and visual artist ANOHNI returns to MASS MoCA for an intimate concert with pianist Gael Rakotondrabe in the Hunter Center. Her work across genres examines her relationship to ecocide through the lens of her trans experience.

ANOHNI first performed at MASS MoCA in 2003, in a now-legendary show in Club B10. Since then she has performed with symphonies at venues including the Teatro Royale in Madrid, Radio City Music Hall, Royal Opera House in London, the Olympic in Paris, Carnegie Hall and Sydney Opera House. ANOHNI has presented exhibitions and installations of her visual work at institutions including the Hammer Museum, Kunsthalle Bielefeld, and Nikolaj Kunsthal, and she had been resident artist at Meltdown Festival, Aaurhus European Capital of Culture, and the Holland Festival. Her albums I am a Bird Now and HOPELESSNESS were nominated for the UK Mercury Prize. Last year’s My Back Was a Bridge For you To Cross was named Album of the Year by The New Yorker, and she was nominated for as Oscar for the song “Manta Ray”. She has released 3 books: SHE WHO SAW BEAUTIFUL THINGS, Swanlights, and Blacklips: Her Life and Her Many, Many Deaths.
