SUMMARY:Earl Sweatshirt + MIKE Home on the Range Tour
DESCRIPTION:With harrison (SURF GANG) & Anysia Kym\nPlease note: MASS MoCA museum galleries are closed on Tuesdays. If you’d like to visit our galleries\, they are open Wednesday–Monday. Preferred/VIP ticket holders can receive gallery admission the day before or the day after the concert by showing their preferred ticket at the door. \n“Indie rap’s favorite friendship” (NPR) takes the Hunter Center stage for one unforgettable night after the release of their collaborative album Pompeii // Utility with support from harrison (SURF GANG) and Anysia Kym\n \nAbout the artists: \nEarl Sweatshirt\nFor over a decade\, Earl Sweatshirt has captivated fans with his virtuosic storytelling\, lyrical depth\, and generous vulnerability. Emerging at just 16 from the incendiary Odd Future collective\, he quickly distinguished himself through dense introspection\, off-kilter cadences\, and a brooding intellect that belied his youth. Across critically acclaimed albums like Doris\, I Don’t Like Shit\, I Don’t Go Outside\, Some Rap Songs\, Sick!\, and Voir Dire\, Earl has cemented himself as a definitive poet chronicling growth\, self-discovery\, and the moods of a generation. His new album Live Laugh Love (LLL) reflects a profound inner shift and meditative processing of his life as a father and artist in his 30s\, weaving spiritual symbolism\, personal responsibility\, and poetic nuance into a surrealist contemplation of chaos and connection. Through steady\, palpable growth and moments of joy and laughter\, LLL boldly confirms Earl’s evolution into an artist embracing his journey\, however imperfect\, and grounding himself in resilience\, creativity\, and enduring honesty. \nMIKE\nOver the years\, MIKE has built a rock-solid catalog that\, like the work of our best\, has reflected the multidimensional truths of his life. He has chronicled the pain of losing his mother\, he’s shown himself climbing out of a funk\, and\, in more recent history\, he’s gotten more comfortable beating his chest about being a leader at the top of his food chain. \nOn MIKE’s newest album\, Showbiz!\, he sets out to strike the perfect balance between everything he’s done in his career thus far. He teeters more actively between moments of introspection\, intoxicating self-confidence\, and motivational conversations in his head\, both thematically and sonically. There’s a seesaw effect\, a clear sign that over the past few years of non-stop touring and ascending in his career\, the rapper has felt a constant back-and-forth that he’s still trying to get a solid handle of. \n

SUMMARY:Ballet Nepantla's Mística
DESCRIPTION:Co-presentation with Jacob’s Pillow \nMística honors the company’s ancestors by celebrating the creative and spiritual energies of their Indigenous\, Afro\, and Hispanic roots. It commemorates traditions of Día de Muertos and transports the audience into the afterlife through the use of black light and Ballet Nepantla’s unique fusion of ballet folklorico and contemporary dance.\nBallet Nepantla originated from a series of pláticas between founders Andrea Guajardo and Martín Rodríguez Vigil\, two artists whose early professional identities emerged from distinct genres: Andrea from classical ballet and contemporary dance\, and Martín from traditional Mexican folklórico. They envisioned a new form of expression that fused the two modalities — an aesthetic that would speak to the historical\, cultural\, and social realities of a broader narrative of being Mexican\, Mexican American\, immigrant\, and transcultural. \nDrawing inspiration from Gloria Anzaldúa’s borderlands theory\, Andrea and Martín imagined they could create performances that spoke to the “in-between” qualities of being from both sides of the borderland. They found the idea of Nepantla\, a Nahuatl term of the Indigenous people of Mexico. Nepantla provides a historical\, intellectual\, and artistic framework through which to explore the “in-between” spaces of history and culture.  \n  \nThis program is supported in part by the Irene Hunter Fund for Dance at MASS MoCA in association with Jacob’s Pillow. \n  \n \n

SUMMARY:Uncomputable Thread Presentation and Movement Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Uncomputable Thread is a presentation\, conversation and participatory movement workshop by artist Taeyoon Choi\, created in collaboration with scholar Alexander R. Galloway\, choreographer Cori Kresge and artist Roopa Vasudevan. The work examines the history of textile in relation to computing\, alongside the artistic and political significance of what cannot be computed and draws on themes of the current exhibition\, Technologies of Relation\, which includes works by both Choi and Vasudevan.\nChoi and Galloway’s presentation weaves together their long collaboration and ongoing conversation about the aesthetics and politics of code and textile\, followed by a discussion moderated by Vasudevan. Kresge directs a participatory movement workshop that extends the conversation toward visceral and communal experience. Together\, the project explores uncomputability as a creative framework for thinking about contemporary technologies and social systems\, connecting the threads of cotton and fiber-optic cables running through data centers. \nAbout the Facilitators \n최태윤 Taeyoon Choi is an artist\, writer\, and educator who explores the poetics of technology and human relations\, working with images\, text\, and code in collaboration with fellow artists and community members. In 2013\, he co-founded the School for Poetic Computation\, a hybrid school\, residency\, and research group exploring the intersections of code\, design\, hardware\, and theory. His work has been presented at institutions including the Whitney Museum of American Art and MASS MoCA. \nCori Kresge is a New York-based dance artist whose practice moves across choreography\, somatic inquiry\, participatory structures\, and poetry. Her work has been presented by Goethe in the Skyways\, Elevation 1049\, Beach Sessions Rockaway\, Green Space\, and Dance Roulette\, among others. A certified teacher and stager for the Merce Cunningham Trust\, she is also the author of two chapbooks\, isn’t devotion (2019) and Combustion Suite (2023)\, and the founder of PlayWithMatchesWorkshop.com. \nAlexander R. Galloway is a writer and computer programmer working on issues in philosophy\, technology\, and theories of mediation\, and Professor of Media\, Culture\, and Communication at New York University. He is the author of several books on digital media and critical theory\, including The Interface Effect (Polity\, 2012). A founding member of the software collective RSG\, his honors include a Guggenheim Fellowship\, the Berlin Prize\, and the Prix Ars Electronica. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nRoopa Vasudevan is a South Asian-American media artist and researcher based between New York City and western Massachusetts\, whose research and creative practice investigates the gaps between the stories we tell about digital systems and the realities of their implementation. Her work has been exhibited internationally and supported by MASS MoCA\, NEW INC\, the Processing Foundation\, and Eyebeam\, among others. She is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Art at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nSupport for Technologies of Relation is provided by the Jacques and Natasha Gelman Foundation\, The Coby Foundation\, Robert Motherwell and Renate Ponsold (in memoriam)\, Dale and Deborah Smith Foundation\, and a grant from Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation’s Artist’s Resource Trust. \nDistributed Web of Care\, Taeyoon Choi With Jerron Harman\, stud1nt\, Tiriree Kananuruk\, Jonathan Dahan\, Chancey Fleet and the School for Poetic Computation\, Whitney Museum of American Art\, Photo by Fillip Wolak\, 2019 \n  \n

SUMMARY:On the Calculation of Volume (Book I) by Solvej BalleBook Talk with Lizzie Whitman
DESCRIPTION:“How on earth did this book come into being? It’s like it has always been here in this world with us\, like one feels about the best art. I am torn as I read it between lingering and racing ahead\, and I think about my days completely differently now.” — Sheila Heti\nLizzie Whitman convenes this casual book club around Solvej Balle’s utterly riveting On the Calculation of Volume (Book I) — the grand opening of her speculative fiction septology\, winner of the 2022 Nordic Council Literature Prize (Scandinavia’s most important literary award) for being “a masterpiece of its time.” Balle was also nominated for the International Booker Prize and a National Book Award for this book.\nTara Selter\, the heroine of On the Calculation of Volume\, has involuntarily stepped off the train of time: in her world\, November 18 repeats itself endlessly. We meet Tara on her 122nd November 18: she no longer experiences the changes of days\, weeks\, months\, or seasons. She finds herself in a lonely new reality without being able to explain why: how is it that she wakes every morning on the same exact day\, knowing to the exact second when the blackbird will burst into song and when the rain will begin? Will she ever be able to share her new life with her beloved and now chronically befuddled husband? And on top of her profound isolation and confusion\, Tara takes in with pain how slight a difference she makes in the world. And as she puts it: “That’s how little the activities of one person matter on the eighteenth of November.” \nBalle is hypnotic and masterful in her remixing of the endless recursive day\, creating curious little folds of time and foreshadowings: her flashbacks light up inside the text like old flash bulbs. \nCan’t make the event? Order On the Calculation of Volume here. \nAbout the facilitator \nLizzie Whitman is a local educator\, reader\, and book club enthusiast. With an education in the Great Books Program and linguistics\, she has been asking the question\, “What are you reading right now?” for decades. \nCore support for the Department of Public Programs is provided by the WLS Spencer Foundation. \n

SUMMARY:Kimberly Bartosik: bLUr
DESCRIPTION:Co-presentation with Jacob’s Pillow  \nbLUr\, choreographed by Kimberly Bartosik\, is a highly physical and emotionally intense dance piece in which five performers navigate scenes of desire\, care\, violence\, and tender rescue. \nExploring the haunting impact of witnessing a loved one’s overdose\, but moving beyond explicit narratives of the opioid crisis\, the work uses visceral movement cycles to embody the violent cravings and internal battles of substance abuse. Built out of Bartosik’s own experiences and deeply shaped by the individuality of her performers\, bLUr is both personal and universal as it warps time and reminds us of our fragility\, power\, and need for one another. \nAbout the artist\nKimberly Bartosik is a choreographer\, performer\, educator\, and writer. As a member of the Merce Cunningham Dance Company for nine years\, Bartosik received a Bessie Award for Exceptional Artistry. She is currently an Advisor for The Ailey School/Fordham BFA Program and teaches at SUNY/Purchase and the Merce Cunningham Trust. \nShe is a 2024 National Dance Project Production Grant (NDP) recipient from the New England Foundation for the Arts; a 2025 New York State Council on the Arts/NYSCA Support for Artists Award grantee with support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature; and a 2025 Harkness Foundation for Dance Project Grant recipient\, among numerous other awards. Bartosik’s work has been commissioned and presented by BAM Next Wave\, New York Live Arts\, Crossing the Line Festival\, Bates Dance Festival\, Torn Space Theater\,  American Dance Festival\, LUMBERYARD\, American Realness\, Abrons Art Center\, Gibney\, Danspace Project\, The Kitchen\, La Mama\, and others. She has toured to Supersense: Festival of the Ecstatic (Melbourne\, Australia)\, Bratislava in Movement (Slovakia)\, Wexner Arts Center\, Dance Place\, American Dance Festival\, The Yard\, MASS MoCA/Jacob’s Pillow\, Flynn Space\, Bates Dance Festival\, Columbia College\, Centre Chorégraphique National de Franche-Comté à Belfort\, Festival Rencontres chorégraphique internationales de Seine-Saint Denis\, Artdanthe Festival\, Church\, Mount Tremper Arts\, and others.  \nThis program is supported in part by the Irene Hunter Fund for Dance at MASS MoCA in association with Jacob’s Pillow. \nbLUr was co-commissioned by L’Alliance New York’s Crossing the Line Festival and by ADF/American Dance Festival with support from the Doris Duke/SHS Foundations Award for New Works. bLUr is also made possible by the New England Foundation for the Arts’ National Dance Project\, with lead funding from the Doris Duke Foundation and the Mellon Foundation. General operating soupport was made possible by the New England Foundation for the Arts’ National Dance Project with funding from the Doris Duke Foundation. bLUr is also made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature and with project support from The Harkness Foundation for Dance. The creation of the bLUr Community Engagement Workshop\, made possible through NDP\, was also developed with support from the 92Y Harkness Dance Center and in collaboration with Recanati-Kaplan teen scholars. bLUr was developed in residency at Marble House Project\, the Ragdale Foundation during a Sybil Shearer Fellowship\, and as an Artist in Residency at Bates Dance Festival. bLUr is also supported through the generosity of individual donors\, with major support by John Robinson. \n  \n \n

SUMMARY:Weave\, Repair\, ConnectTextile Repair Salon
DESCRIPTION:Dip your toes into the world of textiles during MASS MoCA’s Textile Repair Salon! Join regional practitioners Jena Duncan and Elsa Cousins from Swanson’s Fabrics Stash House and MASS MoCA museum educators for a casual evening of textile repair\, embroidery\, and small-scale weaving.\nParticipants are welcome to bring textile objects or clothing in need of repair and learn the skills to mend them with support from the Swanson’s Fabric teaching staff. Mending is for everyone; no sewing experience is required! This project aspires to build an exciting culture of clothing reuse and repair by empowering and inspiring our local community to learn how to make\, mend\, and maintain their clothing and textiles. This workshop is also for community members concerned about the sustainability and environmental impact of textiles who may not see themselves as able to sew. \nIf you don’t have a repair\, don’t worry! MASS MoCA Museum Educators will give instruction on small-scale weaving and invite participants to contribute to our community weaving project currently on view.  \nBring your friends\, bring a date. Refreshments are available to purchase from MASS MoCA’s bar. No experience required; all materials included\, although participants are welcome to bring their own and share with others. \nAbout the educators:\nJena Duncan (they/them) is a fiber arts artist passionate about community building. They share sewing as a liberatory and healing practice to feel more at home in our bodies and help keep textiles out of the landfill by extending their use. Jena founded Blushing Mustard Studios in Greenfield’s Madhouse Multi-Arts\, offering gender- and fat- affirming clothing alterations\, repairs\, and custom commissions. They teach sewing and mending classes at Swanson’s Fabrics\, a second-hand textile store and education center in Turners Falls. Jena also works as an art installer and fabricator\, helping artists bring their work to life\, most recently at MASS MoCA\, MCLA’s Gallery 51\, and UMASS’s University Museum of Contemporary Art.  \nElsa Cousins\, Director of Education at Swanson’s Fabrics\, is an artist and educator teaching mending and sewing classes at Swanson’s Fabrics Stash House\, local libraries\, and community spaces\, as well as environmental science classes at UMass Amherst and Holyoke Community College. They have a PhD in Environmental Conservation from UMass\, and are exploring the intersection between sustainability and textiles through mending\, alterations\, and custom sewing commissions with second-hand textiles. They also run a popular weekly mending night at Swanson’s Fabrics Stash House. \nSwanson’s Fabrics Stash House:\nSwanson’s Fabrics is a community fabric and fiber craft store in Turners Falls\, MA\, stocked with the unused items of other sewers. It is a thrift store with a mission to supply everyone with affordable materials while helping those with too much to reduce their stashes in a comfortable way. The Stash House is the educational branch of Swanson’s Fabrics\, and our goal is to empower you to make and repair your own fiber goods and clothes\, and equip you for that journey with education and tools. The Stash House offers workshops\, materials\, and community space to foster the exploration of fiber arts and sewing. We value the knowledge-sharing that happens organically in community spaces just as much as the formal teaching that happens during classes and workshops.  \nSupport is provided by The Coby Foundation\, Ltd. \n

SUMMARY:Perfume Genius & Kate Wallich: The Lesson
DESCRIPTION:Perfume Genius (Mike Hadreas) and choreographer Kate Wallich return to the stage with a new collaboration.\n“This might be how the music of Perfume Genius is meant to be experienced” — Pitchfork \nCombining Perfume Genius’ experimental pop with Wallich’s distinctive choreographic lens\, The Lesson is a raw\, live music and dance performance inspired by the film The Piano Teacher\, the notorious novel by Elfriede Jelinek\, famously adapted by Michael Haneke.\n\nThe Lesson examines what happens when desire has nowhere to go\, and what we’re rehearsing when we practice “good behavior.” The work moves through repression\, longing\, authority\, and submission in unstable scenes where roles shift\, and the unsaid becomes manically physical.\n\nLongtime admirers know that Perfume Genius (Mike Hadreas) has spoken about his love of The Piano Teacher. Its intense\, clinical bleakness and its capacity to be both unsettlingly comic and tragic\, are qualities that echo through the landscape of The Lesson.\n\nFollowing their acclaimed 2019 performance collaboration The Sun Still Burns Here\, Hadreas reunites with Wallich alongside his husband and musical partner Alan Wyffels and longtime collaborator Tate Justus. \nThe Lesson was commissioned by Seattle Theatre Group and the STG Performing Arts Series\, with additional commissioning and development support from REDCAT\, Liquid Music/Northrop\, MASS MoCA\, and WIP LA. \n\nPlease note: This is a work-in-progress performance\n

SUMMARY:Claud and the Live Music
DESCRIPTION:Catch Claud live as they bring Me and the Music to the stage. It’s Claud’s answer to a question they’ve wrestled with for years: Does everything have to feel so heavy all the time? Turns out\, no.\n \nMe and the Music marks a turn from the heaviness of 2023’s Supermodels\, after Claud let go of a years-long “situationship” that shaped their first two records. On the title track\, they sing “this is the last song I let you ruin” — and meant it\, writing 90% of the album in the year that followed. “It released a lot of regret I was carrying\,” Claud says. “Making music is so fun.” \nThe result is a slice-of-life record that stays playful even while reckoning with hard feelings — from the magic-and-resilience romance of opener “Gay Witchcraft\,” to lead single “She Doesn’t Love Me\,” a driving anthem about being queer and trans in America. Produced by Claud and John Congleton (Alvvays\, St. Vincent)\, it’s Claud’s first outing as a true co-producer. \nAbout the Artist\nClaud Mintz is a 27-year-old Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter-producer. Their debut album\, Super Monster (2021)\, was followed by 2023’s acclaimed Supermodels; Me and the Music is their third full-length. Claud is also one-quarter of Shelly\, the band they founded with Clairo\, Noa Getzug\, and Josh Mehling — whose 2020 debut single went gold\, followed by 2025’s Shelly 2. They have collaborated extensively with producer John Congleton and songwriter Dan Nigro (Olivia Rodrigo\, Chappell Roan)\, and are signed to Jack Antonoff’s publishing venture. \n
