As you wind your way through our galleries on your next visit, don`t be surprised if you stumble across a rogue musician!
Throughout the next month, the Bang on a Can Summer Fellows and Festival Faculty will be taking to our galleries and helping MASS MoCA do what we do best: inviting audiences to get up close and personal with cutting edge art in all of its forms.

Apologies are on display in Rose Salane’s “Confessions,” on view as part of Like Magic in MASS MoCA’s Building 4. The series brings together images of items that were taken from and then returned to Pompeii, accompanied by notes of apology penned by the takers.
Many of the objects in the series are being returned after decades of possession, such as the ashes in “Confession 2” (pictured) whose note explains that they had been taken by a friend for the writer almost forty years prior. “Confessions” asks a viewer to consider what it means to try to “own” history, how it feels to carry remorse in an object, and who confessions are really for.

This #throwbackthursday we`re traveling back to 2019 when The Bang on a Can Summer Music Festival transformed MASS MoCA into a genre-bending musical utopia for innovative composers and performers — activating every corner of our galleries and outdoor spaces with performances, workshops, and seminars focused on adventurous new music.

Spend a summer evening in the Hunter Center on August 8 with comedian/actor/director/writer/fashion icon/fill-in-the-blank-because-he-does-it-all Julio Torres as he returns to MASS MoCA on for the first time since his 2016 High Mud Comedy Fest debut!
Join Julio as he takes the audience on a journey blending stand-up, design, and dream logic into a whimsical exploration of color, emotion, and identity — equal parts comedy and art piece and perfectly at home at MASS MoCA.

In celebration of the opening of “Just a Dream...”, Vincent Valdez was joined by friend and fellow musician Nick Gaitan to collaborate on a performance of “Pickin’ Sides” in front of the River Street billboard in North Adams, MA. Designed by MASS MoCA and Vincent Valdez.
