It’s almost time! Our annual fall benefit in New York is October 23. Don't miss this party, complete with dinner, live music, and live auction…

The event is co-chaired by Liz and Samuel Robinson, with a committee that includes Nels Cline, Don Gummer, Meryl Streep, Alex Timbers, Phillip Glass, Jenny Holzer, Mike Glier, Spencer Finch, Clifford Ross, David Lang, Suzanner Bocanegra, Julia Wolfe, Michael Gordon and Carrie Mae Weems.

Celebrate music that is Made at MASS MoCA with an evening that includes a live auction that will be conducted by Eric Widing, Deputy Chairman of Christie’s Americas. Click here to see the auction items!

Our good friends and preternaturally talented musicians, The Bang on a Can All-Stars will perform Julia Wolfe’s mesmerizing art ballad Steel Hammer.

Wolfe’s Steel Hammer is inspired by the composer's love for the legends and music of Appalachia, and pulls from both the music and oral traditions of the region. The text is taken from over 200 versions of the John Henry ballad – based on hearsay, recollection, and tall tales – and explores the subject of human vs. machine in this quintessential American legend. Steel Hammer was runner-up for the 2010 Pulitzer Prize and stretches the standard instrumentation of Bang on a Can All-Stars with wooden bones, mountain dulcimer, banjo, and more, to evoke the rich instrumental colors of Appalachia. The New York Times calls it a “wild hybrid” and an “obsessive study of the song’s many versions.”

Hear a taste of what's in store during this celebration of music at MASS MocA.

To make a reservation, please contact Rebecca Wehry at 413.664.4481 x8157, rwehry@massmoca.org, or print out this form and fax to 413.663.8548 or mail to Rebecca Wehry at 1040 MASS MoCA Way, North Adams, MA 01247.
