Bang on a Can Summer Festival @ MASS MoCA

July 17-August 3, 2013
MASS MoCA, North Adams, MA

Our big bang theory. We love July when the whole campus becomes a spontaneous combustion chamber for music sometimes just a few milliseconds old. From July 17 to August 3 Bang on a Can returns to MASS MoCA for the 12th Annual Summer Music Festival, a utopian residency program dedicated entirely to the creation, study, and performance of the most adventurous music of our time.

Performance highlights of the three-week intensive include:

  • Daily gallery recitals at 1:30pm (M-F) and 4:30pm (M-Sat) featuring festival faculty and fellows (free with museum admission).
  • Bang on a Can All-Stars and special guests perform the mesmerizing evening-length art ballad Julia Wolfe: Steel Hammer on Saturday, July 27.
  • The Composer Premiere Concert showcasing brand new works written by the Summer Festival composition fellows on Monday, July 29.
  • The 12th annual Bang on a Can Marathon at MASS MoCA, 6-Hours of non-stop live music by Aphex Twin, David Lang, Michael Gordon, the Orchestra of Original Instruments and much more closes the Festival on Saturday, August 3.

Donít miss Bang on a Can at Windsor Lake (July 31) and Downstreet Art (July 25)!
