Since 2000, the Williamstown Film Festival and
MASS MoCA have saluted major artists, actors,
and directors, as well as showcased exceptional film — more than a score of provocative
events to date. This fall, WFF and MASS MoCA
will team up again for an exciting evening on
Friday, October 19, with the film Knuckleball!.
This classic sports story recounts the 2011 journey of the last professional knuckleball pitchers: Tim Wakefield, a 17-year Red Sox veteran, and Mets up-and-comer, R.A. Dickey. Together with just four other living knuckleballers, Wakefield and Dickey shine a light on their remarkable brotherhood and the shared pursuit of honor and craftsmanship.
In a world that values speed, accuracy, and numerical accountability, this is the story of a few good men - a handful of pitchers in the entire history of baseball - forced to resort to the lowest rung on the credibility ladder in their sport: throwing a ball so slow and unpredictable that no one wants anything to do with it.
