In fall 2004, Boston-based artist Linda Price-Sneddon created WonderWorlds, a fantastical installation, filling the entire Kidspace gallery. Its thematic focus on systems, both natural and human-made, suggested how careful observation expands our awareness and understanding of the many ecosystems to which we belong.

The transformation of simple craft materials — pom-poms, string, colored tape, and pipe cleaners — into complex ecosystems evoked visual memories of natural systems such as coral reefs, mountain ranges, thickets, and the earth’s topography, as well as less tangible networks, such as relationships found in families or schools.
