Optics Division/Metabolic Studio

  • NYC Benefit Auction 2017

  • Tribeca Rooftop

Los Angeles Field Trip and Print
Up to 4 people total; travel and accommodations not included

Win this lot to change your view of Los Angeles forever. In 2010, artists Lauren Bon, Richard Nielsen, and Tristan Duke formed The Optics Division at Metabolic Studio in Los Angeles, devoted to reinventing photography in a post-industrial era. A central tool of their work is the Liminal Camera, a movable, monumental camera built from a repurposed shipping container, which they brought to MASS MoCA last year to create portraits of the building exterior. Join Bon, Duke, and Nielsen for a memorable day trip with the Optics Division, including a tour of the two main studio locations and a ride through Los Angeles in the Liminal Camera. You’ll spend time in the darkroom after the adventure, making a large-sized photographic print as a vestige of your trip.

Lauren Bon opened Metabolic Studio in 2005. Derived from the Greek word for “change,” metabolism is the process that maintains life. The actions of the Metabolic Studio are global in focus and reach: developing new tools for urban living and city planning, inventing novel social practices for political and environmental justice, and directing their art practice to engage society.
