Chris Taylor
Bubble Wrap, 2017
Blown glass, dimensions variable

Limited-edition centerpiece artwork created for MASS MoCA

Providence, Rhode Island, artist Chris Taylor turns the mundane into the extraordinary. For twenty years he has been close-copying readymade objects in glass, magically replicating materials such as Styrofoam, soap, plastic, paper, and now, Bubble Wrap. The objects conflate his interests in subversion, irony, and humor with beauty, elegance… together with a deep reverence for the tradition of glassmaking.

Taylor’s art exists as both sculptures and functional art objects, allowing his viewers to indulge in the tactile nature of these objects outside usual art contexts.

Taylor was part of the group exhibition Explode Every Day: An Inquiry into the Phenomena of Wonder at MASS MoCA in 2016. For the MASS MoCA benefit, he has created Bubble Wrap vases, which will be featured on every table at the event.
