Clementine’s metier is torch songs, most of which tend to follow the same pattern — an opening of piano chords that ebbs and flows with Clementine gliding over the top before launching into a full-throated outburst of emotion… his technique is pretty rough and ready, lacking in technique and range but bursting with character, his delivery full of odd phrasings and unexpected twists. — NME

With the urgency, strength, passion, and fury in his voice, it’s no surprise that Clementine continues to garner comparison to the likes of Nina Simone. — NPR Music

Benjamin Clementine, the uncategorizable London-based singer-poet, pianist, and composer who won England’s most-coveted Mercury Prize for his 2015 debut album At Least for Now, has been compared to Nina Simone and Edith Piaf for his striking, otherworldly vocal delivery. A once-homeless Parisian teen who now has cult status in the French music and art world, he’s on the brink of becoming a global phenomenon. His solo performance here was organized by the artist Nick Cave, on the occasion of the opening of Cave’s MASS MoCA exhibition, Until.

Please join us before the concert for the Opening Reception of Nick Cave: Until, from 5:30 to 7pm.
